If you or your team claimed the free year of ChatGPT Go in India, the free period is about to end. It began on 4 November 2025, so the first accounts reach twelve months in early November 2026. This update shows how to find your date, what the plan costs now, and how to cancel in time if you do not need it. Prices and steps were checked on OpenAI's own pages on 12 October 2026.

What happened: the free year and today's price

  • In late October 2025 OpenAI announced that people in India could get ChatGPT Go free for twelve months if they signed up during a promotion that started on 4 November 2025. Existing Go subscribers in India got the same twelve months.
  • The free year was given as a ChatGPT Go subscription. OpenAI's help page says Go subscriptions "are billed automatically monthly, and can be canceled anytime".
  • OpenAI's pricing page for India shows ChatGPT Go at ₹399 a month. The next plan, Plus, is shown at ₹1,999 a month.
  • OpenAI's separate help page for the India offer is no longer online. Its address now opens the general ChatGPT Go page, so we could not re-read the exact terms of the offer.

Put together: an account that still has a card or UPI attached should expect the regular monthly charge once its free twelve months are over. Your own billing page is the only place that shows your exact date and amount.

Why it matters for a small business

₹399 a month is small for one person. It adds up when five or ten people in a team claimed the offer, often on personal accounts and sometimes with the company's card.

The opposite problem is also real. If a payment fails, or someone cancels without thinking, a person who uses ChatGPT every day for quotations or customer replies drops to the free plan's lower limits in the middle of their work.

Either way, it is better to decide now than to find out from a bank message.

Who should care

  • Anyone in India who claimed the free year.
  • Owners whose staff use ChatGPT for work.
  • Whoever checks the card and UPI statements in the business.

What changes when the free year ends: ₹399 a month or the free plan

If you keep it, you pay every month. OpenAI's help page says there is no annual plan and no way to pay for several months in advance. The pricing page notes that the Go plan "may include ads", and the help page says OpenAI may adjust pricing over time.

If you cancel, the account goes back to the free plan. According to OpenAI, Go adds higher limits for image creation, file uploads and data analysis, and a longer memory. Both Free and Go include everyday text chats.

How to check your renewal date and cancel ChatGPT Go in time

  1. Find your date. On chatgpt.com, sign in, open your account menu, choose Settings, then Billing. If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, look under your subscriptions there.
  2. Count the accounts. Ask each team member whether they claimed the offer, on which email, and with whose card or UPI.
  3. Decide for each person, using the table below.
  4. Cancel in time if you are not keeping it. OpenAI says to cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date, on the platform where you subscribed. Paid features stay until the end of the current period. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription.
  5. If you keep it, set the rules. Decide what may be pasted into ChatGPT and what may not. OpenAI says it may use conversations to improve its models, and that you can opt out in the data controls.

What to watch next

  • Any change to the ₹399 price.
  • Ads in the Go plan. OpenAI's help page says it "may start testing ads in ChatGPT Go in the future".
  • New offers from OpenAI or from other AI assistants. A free period is a good time to compare, not a reason to stay.
